Personally, I don’t think this movie deserves all the negativity it received....and definitely I am NOT calling it a Masterpiece either!!!!
Growing up as a huge Upendra fan and having watched his directorial cults, I somehow feel I am the right audience for Toxic!!!! A normal cine-goer should probably stay away....because this could easily turn into an unwanted assault on the senses!!!! 😂
Director Geetu Mohandas, who previously made low-budget films that travelled to International Film Festivals and even fetched her a National Award, probably wanted to make a HUGE BUDGET Mind F****ing Psychological Thriller with a Pan-India Star....something that would make the Academy send her an Oscar through Rapido!!!! 😂
And she went all out....a complicated story, excellently choreographed fights, stylish visuals and actors playing characters with negative shades.
But where she completely messed up was EDITING!!!!
Expecting the audience to patiently sit through 3 Hours 15 Minutes, mostly clueless about what is happening and WHY it is happening, only to get clarity in the last 15 minutes....was asking for too much!!!!
Especially when the Trailer already gives a clue about the major conflict and the opening 10 minutes set up a Father-Son Clash, spending the next 2 hours jumping through multiple plots and subplots only disconnects the audience.
By the time the movie comes back to its main track....the audience senses are already exhausted!!!!
And NO, I don’t have a problem with the Sex and Violence. When your movie is called Toxic, Sex and Violence are obvious ways to showcase how TOXIC these characters are!!!!
My problem is with repeatedly using them without moving the story forward!!!!
The Director probably forgot that it is only Christopher Nolan who can make movies that normal audiences don’t completely understand....and still walk away with applause!!!! Yet she bravely chose the same path!!!! 😂
The dialogues don’t help either. While the visuals look absolutely stylish and top notch, the language sounds like it came straight out of some Medieval Language book!!!! It sounds grand....but hardly connects with the general audience.
If this movie had been trimmed to around 2 Hours 15 Minutes, with crisper editing and dialogues, I genuinely feel it could have become one of the EPICS in the careers of everyone involved!!!!
Instead....it ended up playing with the careers of all the stakeholders!!!!
Acting wise, Yash, Kiara and everyone else gave their best, but unfortunately the audience never gets enough emotional connection with them.
Ultimately, Geetu Mohandas wanted to make a movie for an International Audience and completely lost touch with the Local Audience....
She wanted to make a psychological movie on the lines of Joker....
Instead, she ended up making a JOKER out of everyone involved!!!! 😂
